Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., understands the importance of cultivating the youth of today to be the leaders of tomorrow.  The sorority’s youth initiative includes three programs designed to shape the future of girls and boys in our communities:  Delta Academy, Delta GEMS., and EMBODI.

Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy

Aimed at girls ages 11-14 (6th to 8th grade), the Dr. Shabazz Delta Academy, named for late sorority member and community and education advocate, seeks to empower girls toward academic achievement, healthy self-esteem, cultural awareness, leadership and designing a path to future success.  The Bay Area Houston Alumnae chapter provides an opportunity for members to engage with girls and enrich their lives through mentorship, programmatic events, and community service.

Delta GEMS

As an extension of the Delta Academy program, Delta GEMS targets young ladies aged 15-18 (9th to 12th grade).  The program goals are to:
  • Instill the need to excel academically
  • Provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
  • Assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures high school and beyond
  • Create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in             service learning and community service opportunities.
BAHA offers GEMS the opportunity to create a road map to a successful future in college and subsequent careers.

EMBODI

EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence), was created by our 24th National President, Cynthia Butler-McIntyre.  The program is designed to address the plight of African-American males and their issues related to STEM education, culture, leadership, healthy lifestyle choices, character, ethics, college readiness, fiscal management, and civic engagement.

EMBODI targets young men between the ages of 13 and 17, and provides opportunities to interact with positive men in the community and engage in activities that are educational, uplifting, and fun as well as participate in community service activities.

BAHA understands that our young African American males are a commodity and they should be treasured, encourages, and celebrated.
