Program Name: Pillow Case Dresses
BAHA will be supporting the St. Teresa Primary School in Sierra Leone, West Africa again this year. Members of Bay Area Houston are re-purposing pillow cases into dresses for young girls in Sierra Leon West Africa. The goal is to make 100 dresses. BAHA is collaborating with local fabric stores for donations of notions. The public is invited to donate as well.
Program Name: Walk a Mile in my Shoes
In response to our National President’s call to ‘Adopt a School’, BAHA adopted St. Teresa Primary School in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The children must walk miles to get to school every day and were badly in need of shoes. BAHA held a shoe drive for the students, collecting new and gently used shoes.
Chapter members, as well as the faculty, staff, and students of Lone Star College and Bossier Parish Community College were able to collect nearly 300 pairs of shoes! The cost of shipping the donated shoes was funded by BAHA. Additionally, new socks and soccer balls for the students were included in the shipment. The shipment was delivered in January 2011. Most notably regarding this project is the mention of one of our chapter members who paid her own way to Sierra Leone to ensure the delivery and presentation. Please visit the Photo Gallery to see the photographs from Sierra Leone.
BAHA is continuing with support of St. Teresa Primary School. For the ensuing year, BAHA members will be collecting toiletries and personal products for distribution in the fall. If you would like to donate, contact iai@bahadeltas.org.
